M. capsulatus Bath is a well-characterized aerobic methane-oxidizing bacterium that has become model system for biotechnological development of methanotrophs to perform useful reactions environmental cleanup and making valuable chemicals biological products using methane gas. Interest in such technology increased recently owing increasing availability low-cost from fossil sources. Here, it demonstrated this versatile methanotroph can reduce the toxic contaminating heavy metal chromium(VI) less form chromium(III) while accumulating within cells. This expected diminish bioavailability chromium make likely be reoxidized chromium(VI). Thus, capacity methane-driven remediation chromium-contaminated water other materials accumulate low-toxicity
